Quick Dry Nylon Spandex Fabric

Quick Dry Nylon Spandex Fabric – 160-200GSM / 145-160cm / 4-Way Stretch Performance Knit for Activewear & Swimwear
If you have ever worn a pair of leggings that stay wet after a workout, or a swimsuit that takes hours to dry, you know the problem. Moisture sits against the skin. It is uncomfortable, and in the wrong conditions, it can cause chafing.
That is exactly what our Quick Dry Nylon Spandex Fabric solves.
The quick-drying performance comes from the nylon itself. Nylon absorbs very little water compared to natural fibres like cotton. When a garment made from this fabric gets wet – whether from sweat, rain, or a dip in the pool – it releases moisture rapidly. The combination of nylon fibres and the right knit structure pulls moisture away from the skin and spreads it across the fabric surface, where it evaporates quickly.

This is a high-performance stretch fabric, typically composed of 77-92% nylon and 8-23% spandex – the spandex content determines the stretch and recovery. Weight ranges from 73 GSM (ultra-lightweight) to 200 GSM, with the sweet spot for most activewear at 160-200 GSM. Width is typically 145-160 cm, customisable.

The fabric offers 4-way stretch – it stretches both horizontally and vertically – allowing the material to move with the body in all directions. Unlike polyester-spandex, nylon-elastane has a naturally soft, smooth hand-feel that makes it comfortable against the skin. It is also chlorine-resistant, UV-protective, and holds its colour well after repeated washing.

What Makes This Quick Dry Nylon Spandex Fabric Different

Let me walk you through what this fabric does and why it performs the way it does.

● Why nylon for quick-dry performance.

The quick-drying performance starts at the fibre level. Nylon fibres absorb very little moisture compared to natural fibres – they are hydrophobic. When a garment made from this fabric gets wet, the water does not soak into the fibres. Instead, it stays on the surface and evaporates quickly. This is why nylon is the preferred choice for swimwear and performance activewear.

● How the moisture-wicking works.

The quick-dry performance is enhanced by the knit structure. Nylon fibres pull moisture away from the skin – this is the "wicking" effect. The moisture spreads across the surface of the fabric, where it has more exposure to air and evaporates faster. The result is a fabric that keeps you drier and more comfortable during physical activity.

● 4-way stretch – what it means.

The spandex content – ranging from 8% to 23% – gives this fabric its 4-way stretch capability. It stretches in both length and width, allowing the garment to move with the body in all directions. This is essential for activities like yoga, running, swimming, and any sport that requires full range of motion.

● Stretch recovery – why it matters.

The recovery is just as important as the stretch. After stretching, the fabric returns to its original shape. This prevents sagging at the knees, elbows, or seat – common problems with lower-quality stretch fabrics. The spandex content ensures the garment maintains a sleek, supportive silhouette over time.

● Soft hand-feel and comfort.

Nylon-elastane has a naturally soft, smooth, and slightly cool feel against the skin. It is more comfortable than polyester-spandex for close-to-skin garments – leggings, sports bras, swimwear, and lingerie.

● Durability you can count on.

Nylon is naturally strong and abrasion-resistant. It withstands friction from sand, pool edges, repeated movement, and frequent washing without losing its integrity. The fabric also resists pilling and maintains its appearance over time.

● What our customers are using it for.

○ Activewear brands: Leggings, yoga pants, sports bras, running tops – the quick-dry and stretch make these garments functional and comfortable.

○ Swimwear makers: Swimsuits and bikinis – nylon-elastane holds its shape in water, resists chlorine, and dries quickly.

○ Dancewear brands: Leotards and performance costumes – the 4-way stretch allows for full range of motion.

○ Lingerie and underwear brands: The soft hand-feel and quick-dry properties are ideal for close-to-skin garments.

○ Sportswear: Cycling shorts, compression tops, base layers.

FAQ

Q1: How quick-drying is this fabric compared to cotton?

A1: Significantly faster. Nylon absorbs very little water compared to natural fibres like cotton. When a garment made from this fabric gets wet, it releases moisture rapidly. The moisture-wicking structure also pulls sweat away from the skin and spreads it across the surface for faster evaporation. A cotton T-shirt can take hours to dry; this fabric can dry in minutes.

Q2: How much stretch does this fabric have?

A2: It depends on the spandex content. For blends with 8-14% spandex, you get moderate to high 4-way stretch. For blends with 22-24% spandex, you get very high 4-way stretch with superior recovery. The stretch is permanent because the spandex is part of the yarn structure – it does not wash out.

Q3: Is this fabric suitable for swimwear?

A3: Yes, absolutely. Nylon-elastane is one of the most common swimwear fabrics. It holds its shape in water, resists chlorine and saltwater, dries quickly, and offers UV protection. It also takes dye well, so colours stay vibrant even with repeated exposure to water.

Q4: Is the fabric durable?

A4: Yes. Nylon is naturally strong and abrasion-resistant. It withstands frequent movement, rubbing, and repeated washing without losing its integrity. The fabric also resists pilling and maintains its shape over time.

Q5: Does the fabric feel soft against the skin?

A5: Yes. Nylon has a naturally soft, smooth, and slightly cool hand-feel. It is more comfortable than polyester-spandex for garments worn directly against the skin – leggings, sports bras, swimwear, and lingerie.

Q6: Can I get a physical colour card?

A6: Yes – and I recommend it. Screens cannot show the true softness, sheen, and drape of nylon-elastane accurately. We keep swatch rings for our stock colours. Free to request – you cover shipping.

Q7: What is the MOQ for this fabric?

A7: 500-1,000 meters per colour. For stock colours, we can sometimes accept smaller quantities – ask us.

Q8: How should I care for this fabric?

A8: Machine wash cold (30°C), gentle cycle, with mild detergent. Do not use bleach. Do not use fabric softener – it can coat the fibres and affect moisture-wicking performance. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Avoid high heat to protect the elastane. Rinse in fresh water after swimming to remove chlorine or salt.
