● Warp knitting vs. other constructions.

Most velvets you see are either woven or weft-knitted. Woven velvet is stable but expensive and prone to fraying at cut edges. Weft-knitted velvet stretches easily and can snag. Warp knitting, by contrast, interlocks yarns vertically in a loop structure that does not unravel and resists distortion. The pile in warp-knitted Holland velvet is created either by cutting loops on a tricot machine or by splitting long underlaps during finishing . The result is a fabric with excellent pull-out resistance – a characteristic that makes it ideal for upholstery that has to hold up to repeated sitting and shifting.

● What the pile actually feels like.

The pile in Holland velvet is "upright" – the cut fibres stand straight up rather than tilting in one direction . That means you cannot stroke it in a specific direction; it has a consistent, dense, velvety surface that looks the same from any angle. The hand-feel is soft and plush, but the fabric has a fuller, more substantial weight than cheaper velvets.

● Why polyester.

Polyester gives you a fabric that is machine-washable (for removable covers), stain-resistant, and does not fade quickly in sunlight. It is also shrink-resistant – a 100% polyester Holland velvet will hold its dimensions much better than a cotton blend . For furniture that has to stand up to kids, pets, and daily spills, polyester is the practical choice.

● Weight options matter.

Holland velvet comes in a range of weights, and each has its own use case:

○ 200-250 GSM: Lightweight. Works well for curtains, throw pillows, and decorative accents.

○ 280-350 GSM: The sweet spot for residential sofas and armchairs. Durable enough for daily use, soft enough to be comfortable.

○ 350-500+ GSM: Heavyweight. Used for high-traffic commercial furniture, hotels, and premium upholstery where durability is the priority.

● What our customers are using it for.

Furniture manufacturers use Holland velvet for sofas and sectionals – the fabric is stable on the frame and does not stretch out of shape. Interior designers use it for accent chairs and headboards. We also see it used for curtains and bedding in hospitality projects, and for automotive interiors in some cases.

● Stock colours.
We keep a wide selection of stock colours – neutrals (black, charcoal, navy, beige, cream, grey) and a broad range of fashion shades. The exact palette varies by weight and finish, so ask us for the current list.

● Custom colours.
We match Pantone colours. Send us the number, we run a small dye batch for your approval, then go into full production. Custom colour sample fee applies – deducted from your final order.

● Custom width.
140-150 cm is standard. Width can be adjusted if your cutting patterns require it.

● MOQ.
The MOQ for Holland velvet varies by weight and finish. Standard plain velvet usually starts at 500 metres per colour. Embossed or printed versions may have higher MOQs because of the additional setup. For stock colours, we can sometimes accept smaller orders. Sample cuttings (A4 size) are free – you pay shipping.

● Lead time.
15-30 working days from deposit confirmation to shipment, depending on the finish and quantity. Plain velvet is faster; custom finishes take longer.

● Packing.
Standard packing is in rolls with a plastic bag to protect against moisture and dust. Velvet requires careful rolling to avoid pile crushing. We ship from Shanghai or Ningbo port.

● Standard samples (stock colours).

A4-size cuttings are free. You pay the shipping cost. If you have a FedEx/DHL/TNT account, we ship using your account and you pay nothing for shipping.

● Custom colour samples.

Sample fee applies – covers dye setup and small-batch production. Deducted from your final order if you proceed.

● Custom finish samples.

For embossed, printed, or waterproofed versions, sample fees apply and are deducted from the final order.
